A Unique Fungal Outbreak Found In Joplin MO

Those who have been fortunate to seek refuge in shelters following the devastating tornado that struck Joplin, MO have been diagnosed with a unique blood vessel dwelling infection of zygomycosis. This is thought to be the result of the massive triage efforts to save the survivors from injury sustained during the tornado. The fungus entered the bloodstream of victims when they were struck by debris that had dirt on them that contained the fungal spores. The fungus itself is not that unheard of but finding it on or within a human is rare and dangerous. Luckily the health department has been able to catch and treat the cases that have been occurring.
This outbreak was reported on the Komo 4 News
